- Our Legacy
The Visionary Behind General Foundries
In the heart of Mumbai’s industrial hub, Kandivali, a young and ambitious mechanical
engineer—Shri K. Vishwanath Mallya—dared to dream beyond the ordinary. While
working at a stainless steel foundry, he envisioned building a place of his own, one rooted in
integrity, craftsmanship, and resilience. That vision came to life in 1971,
with
the establishment of General Foundries.
- Humble Beginnings
With the support of Mr. Kurien Rocky, owner of Nirmal Rubber & Boards
Compound,
Shri. Mallya leased a small workspace. Starting with an 80 kg arc furnace, just
6 workers, and a lot of heart, the journey began.
There were no defined roles back then—only dedication. Alongside two moulders, three helpers, and
one welder, Mr. Mallya rolled up his sleeves and worked day and night. From
procuring orders, carrying patterns on his shoulders by train, taking three heats a
day, to personally cleaning castings, preparing moulds, and even
delivering products himself—he did it all.
- A One-Man Powerhouse
Without a formal office, Mr. Mallya worked from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the foundry
floor. Mondays were dedicated to personally delivering castings to clients,
ensuring quality and satisfaction firsthand.
Starting with just 4 loyal clients, General Foundries soon earned its name by
manufacturing:
- Heat Treatment Furnace Parts
- Flanges & Valve Bodies
- Using materials like CF8, CF8M, GG 30, CD4MCU, CF3M, HU, HT, 24% Cr, Monel,
Hastelloy
C, and Alloy 20
- Growth & Expansion
By 1976, five years in, General Foundries had gained industry recognition. A
150 kg arc furnace was added to handle increased demand, running twice every 15
days. Manual processes gave way to mechanization with the addition of a sand
mixer,
boosting efficiency.
As work grew, so did the team. Mr. Mallya brought in his nephew Mr. Kamat, and
later, his son-in-law Mr. Uday Prabhu, turning the foundry into a
family-run partnership firm.
- Modernization & Milestones
Under the guidance of Shri K. Vishwanath Mallya and Mrs. Pushpa V.
Mallya, General Foundries entered a phase of rapid development:
- A dedicated office was constructed.
- An in-house laboratory was set up for casting analysis.
- Orders began pouring in from government sectors like RCF and HPCL.
- The foundry started producing more ASTM-grade castings, tripling in scale.
His son, Mr. Suresh V. Mallya, an engineer and MBA (Finance) from NMIMS, also
joined
to further the family legacy.
- A Leader Like No Other
Shri K. V. Mallya was more than a founder—he was a father figure, mentor, and friend.
His
humility, empathy, and generosity left a lasting impression on every person he met.
Employees were treated like family, and many continued their association with General Foundries
well
beyond retirement—a rare and heartfelt testament to his character.
He never forgot his roots and remained ever ready to help those in need, be it with advice,
emotional support, or financial assistance—always with respect and kindness.
- Remembering a Legend
“His generosity can never be described in words.”
To this day, every individual who knew Shri K. V. Mallya remembers him with deep
respect and affection. His values continue to shape MGFPL’s culture,
ethics,
and vision for the future.
- Today & Beyond
From a humble beginning to a recognized name in the industry, General Foundries
is
not just a company—it is a legacy built on hard work, trust, and unwavering commitment to
quality.
We continue to honor Shri K. V. Mallya’s vision with every casting we produce and every
relationship we build.

Mrs. Pushpa V. Mallya, the beloved wife of Mr. K.V. Mallya, was not
only a dedicated teacher and later a principal but also the cornerstone of support for her husband
as he ventured into building MGFPL.
She often spoke of Mr. Mallya’s tireless work ethic, his integrity, and his unwavering
commitment to both his family and employees. Through her nurturing, she instilled in them the values
of hard work, compassion, and respect for others.
Her warmth and kindness created a unique bond between the employees and the leadership, fostering a
family-like atmosphere within the organization.
After Mr. Mallya’s passing she became even more involved with the company. With a sharp eye for
detail, she meticulously reviewed the purchase and sales reports, financial
statements, and kept a close watch on the welfare of the employees.
Through her continued dedication, Mrs. Mallya not only preserved the legacy of her late husband but
also built upon it with her own leadership. She became a pillar of strength for the employees,
embodying both managerial expertise. Her involvement helped shape the company into a place where
everyone felt valued, and her nurturing presence ensured that the company thrived long after Mr.
Mallya’s passing.

Shaping Legacy Through Vision and Innovation
In the year 2000, a young engineer with a keen mind and a strong legacy stepped into the world of
manufacturing. Mr. Suresh Vishwanath Mallya, son of Mr. K.V. Mallya, brought with
him a new wave of energy and innovation to General Foundries.
While he had just completed his degree in Electronics Engineering, he was also in
the midst of pursuing an MBA in Finance from the prestigious NMIMS.
One of his earliest and most revolutionary steps was the introduction of the Induction
Furnace. This decision marked a turning point in the company’s production
capabilities. It was a paradigm shift, opening up new possibilities for
higher-quality casting production and improved energy efficiency. Along with this, Mr. Mallya
successfully mastered the art of charge making and extended the product line to
include a variety of ASTM A-grade castings, meeting the exacting standards of
global industries.
Understanding that quality needed to be backed by certification, Mr. Mallya led the company toward a
major milestone—ISO certification by TUV India in 2002. This achievement reflected
not only process excellence but also his vision of placing the company on a global platform of
quality and reliability.
With continued growth and transformation, the company rebranded in 2003 as Mallya’s
General Foundries Pvt. Ltd., an identity that recognized both the family’s legacy
and the company's expanding capabilities.
Realizing the need for operational independence and quality control, Mr. Mallya then established an
in-house Heat Treatment Shop. This addition gave the company full control over the
final properties of its castings and included the installation of an up-to-date Graph
Machine to ensure metallurgical accuracy.
Continuing his commitment to innovation, Mr. Mallya also introduced cutting-edge technology by
importing the Spectromaxx Spectrometer from Germany. This investment placed
Mallya’s General Foundries among the technologically advanced manufacturers in the sector,
allowing for real-time, high-precision analysis of materials.
But his ambition didn’t stop there. Mr. Mallya ventured into Centrifugal Casting
production, an expansion that brought in orders for finished rings
from major pump manufacturers across the country.
Today, the strong technical foundation and forward-looking mindset of Mallya’s General
Foundries Pvt. Ltd. are deeply rooted in the leadership and foresight of Mr. Suresh V.
Mallya. His journey—from an ambitious engineer to a driving force behind a growing
enterprise—continues to inspire innovation, excellence, and the seamless blending of tradition with
technology.

A New Chapter Begins - Honouring the Past, Building the Future
The legacy of a great institution is not merely in its years of existence but in the values, vision,
and people who carry it forward. In September 2022, Mallya’s General
Foundries Pvt. Ltd. (MGFPL) witnessed such a turning point—one that blended the weight
of legacy with the promise of new leadership.
Following the sudden and sorrowful passing of Late Mr. Suresh V. Mallya, the mantle
of leadership was taken up with courage and determination by Manisha Suresh Mallya
and Krishna Suresh Mallya. Stepping in as Managing Director and
Director respectively, they have taken it upon themselves to preserve the values
laid down by their predecessors and to guide the company into a strong and sustainable future.
This decision was not merely about managing a business—it was about carrying forward a
family legacy, a dream first envisioned by Late Shri K.V. Mallya, the
founder of MGFPL. His goal was clear and bold: to establish MGFPL as one of the leading and most
dependable manufacturers of Stainless Steel and Alloy Steel Castings, not just in
Mumbai, but across India. Today, that dream lives on through the dedication and perseverance of the
new leadership.
In her own moving words, she shared:
“This company was built by the hard work and sacrifice of our founder, Late Shri K.V.
Mallya. He gave not just his time but his life to ensure that the families of all
employees grew alongside his dream.
Beside him stood Late Smt. P.V. Mallya, who looked after the well-being of the
employees with utmost care and compassion;
My husband, Late Shri Suresh V. Mallya, carried their torch forward with unmatched
vision—bringing in the Induction Furnace, pushing for innovation, and always
keeping his people first.
Even during the pandemic, when uncertainty loomed large, he ensured that no one missed a single
paycheck. His heart was with the people—and that is the spirit I want to preserve.
Yes, times have changed, and the challenges are new. But so is our determination. It’s time to
focus, rebuild, and take MGFPL to the heights our founders always dreamed of.”
As MGFPL enters this new era, it does so with a clear purpose: to honour its roots, to respect its
people, and to build a future that makes its founders proud.
